The harsh job market

Writer's picture: TCOTCO

I had one interview for a certain engineering company, but failed. I don't think it was entirely my fault, but they just hired a better person somehow.

I tried my first driving lesson after passing G2 road test (Ontario) in June 2022. I think I'll just let my guy (instructor) to pick a date, and I'll go for the G road test (the exit test) "this year", but he told me back "just go after a few classes (no need to hold back for months)".

Then, I told myself, as soon as I am hopelessly and aimlessly applying for random non-tech jobs, and seeing fierce competition in the IT job market, I can as well just complete the G test as early as in April/May.

My courses aren't going great. Android app, with Razi, is not so hard to write, and it's basic stuff so far. Abidin's prj class is so boring and it's just insane to write such boring, made-up stuff that no one cares and teammates mostly don't come to help. They are free riders, 100%. Navid in SYD466 is great, but it's so much theory that I cannot seem to understand what the heck he is asking for in the tests and assignments.

I think it's simply a very bad idea to study the SYD courses overall. I am not getting an interview burying my head in this kind of BS. Zero tech skill there.

And that leads me to the last point of today: I am NOT doing another full-time semester again. It doesn't help with job search at all. I am merely an "undeclared post-secondary education" student that nobody cares.

My new plan is simply to split my remaining 3 courses. There is no goddamn co-op in existence, and other than the difficult market, part-time undeclared PSE is not really taken positively as a co-op candidate.

-PRJ666: I'll eventually do this with any group members. Say, if my guys are into this, I'll go ahead with them.

-BDA400 and PRO670: whether I complete G road test or not, it's only tactful to literally delay both. The whole point is part-time or full-time study is simply useless for now. Assume I do graduate with G before Canada Day, I'll simply be applying for jobs where G is required, and that alone is more useful than 10 technologies when all idiots in tech are looking for the damned "full-stack" code monkeys.

It's not even a very significant change of my schedule. I am actually free to take even more courses, but it's not helpful nor constructive.

Any IT technology is learnable online.

My Summer 2024 schedule

My classmate said the C# course wasn't as good as expected, and it was just "powerpoint reading". When I already dislike Abidin Akkok's...
