Bracing for 2024 (part-time CPA plan)

Updated: Jan 7, 2024

Assume that OSAP goes fine this week, my next "semester" can look like this:

PRJ566 Project Planning and Management. Tuesdays.

Elective: Wednesdays or otherwise. (MAP524 Android app/PRO670 C#/DBM635 database admin using sql server, very likely not by Les King/JAC555)

SYD466 Software Analysis and Design II. Thursdays.

I think at face value, C#, DBM, and Java Advanced may all look equally good. And yeah, it seems asp.net and C# are still in demand.

I have 6 more courses to do. Now, my 3 classes are going OK. The 6 are PRJ566+SYD466+PRJ666+3 electives. However, my focus now is on the core courses, so I just need to confirm SYD466 for winter 2024. Without that, I am not even moving on.

Plan:

  1. (Register and) confirm SYD466 in early January.

  2. Take PRJ566.

  3. If SYD466 is OK, inquire about DBM635/decide on PRO670.

The priority should be on DBM635. I cannot assume PRJ666 next time won't fall on Wednesdays again. In case it will be the case again, then it can be PRJ666 (Wed) + C# (Sat), and in this case BDA400 (Tue, Les King again...) can be a buffer. In this part-time school, they have so few choices (given a small student population), so it's hard to choose.

As of end of October, the ones in yellow are available for registration or I haven't taken them yet. The full-time school has far more (tough) choices than just Java stuff and a lot of Les King presence...

November update:

The school released schedules for every available course and those I highlighted are still around. SYD466 (Thu) and PRJ566 (Tue) simply mean I won't have BDA400 (Tue) for now. My current courses (Datawarehousing, DevOps, the busiest one, and Web422) are not too much unless I get stuck in esp. Azure. So, my prediction is any combination next semester (SYD+PRJ+one elective) can be chill. I have no good estimate for now, but it seems 3 courses are about right like the current semester. I still have time to look for jobs, especially further in November.

What happens now is, the database course doesn't have much left. Web is mainly on Angular but if I put enough effort there should be enough time. DevOps mostly is because of Azure, but not too hard either. If I predict, SYD is mostly on sequence diagrams (visual paradigm) (so obscure that few IT professionals even know them), and PRJ is mostly on bullshiting (microsoft project). I am not even joking

My core courses will count even more than electives since they are mandatory. So for now it seems I can see better investment on finding jobs/learning new frameworks/new languages.

December 17:

Tu: PRJ566/BDA400

We: MAP524/PRJ666/DBM635/DBA

Th: SYD466

Sa: PRO670

I am afraid that even a Wednesday class is essential because I cannot expect PRJ666 NOT to be on Tu/We. The simple idea that it makes more sense than not to finish the remaining 6 courses asap, e.g. SYD+PRJ5+DBM, and then PRJ666+BDA+PRO.

As complicated as it sounds, my tactic is to at least sign up for SYD466, but the most recent faculty response was that 12 students were required for it/any course to happen. It may not sound like a high number, but difficult enough.

December 27:

Not very good news if your school won't even start a core course just because it thinks not enough people have signed up.

January 7:

This is the last update of this passage. Sheri the officer said SYD466 would start this time because "we did not host SYD466 last semester" and told me to stay on. Last time it was still only 6 students, but I'll definitely start:

Tu: PRJ566

We: DBM635

Th: SYD466

I still have some time for now, but very soon I'll dive into coding again.

My Summer 2024 schedule

My classmate said the C# course wasn't as good as expected, and it was just "powerpoint reading". When I already dislike Abidin Akkok's...
